Plan january

For January  we plan to have a complete section of band footage that we can then begin to edit. we hope to have re-filmed a lot of our "lets make out" montage and plan to finish editing it and make sure that the mise en scene fits in with the video and add more consistency to the video. this will allow us to go full steam into editing.

we need a lot more focus on a main character to give the video more narrative.

Here is an update of were i am with my music video!

I have filmed a fair amount, around 2 hours worth. however as for editing we have  about two minutes worth. So far it is looking rather average, the main problem i am facing is the "mise en scene" within the video. It doesn't have an effective consistency throughout, i feel we have too many locations and far too many characters for their to be any sort of narrative. I know that this was the desired effect, but i feel at the moment its starting too get a bit too busy. Instead we need a select few character's and some definite locations. On the upside, at the moment the lip sinking is going very well and fits effectively with the lyrics. We also have a good minute of editing that we can use, however their is still a lot more work to do and some re shooting to be done.

Tad and i have looked at another students work, "Amber" as she is doing a similar upbeat music video to us. we looked at her editing and the way in which she had made two parts to her video with a narrative and band footage, we realised how effective this was and realised that we need to get on and film our band scenes so that we can see how it will look for us and allow us to have further progression. 

2nd shooting

Slightly better yesterday.
Got a large amount of filming done and filmed the majority of the opening, still a little more to do and we plan to finish the filming today.
The only problem was i couldnt start the editing process last night as their was now charging pack inside the macbook- bag and thefore couldnt charge my mac book resulting in clips not being put together, this will have to be done. In the future i shall prepare the macbook and check for equipement thoroughly.

Well filming was a flop!!

Not the best of starts!!!

okay so firstly, location. couldn't shoot in the living room we wanted to use for our short paced scene as the people that lived there were out for the day. There went that plan.

Secondly, When it came to our outdoor scene we turned on the camera got it all sorted, to realize our tape had been left at school.

NO FILMING DONE!!!

Our first set back and we really hope its the last.

Tad and i plan to film on wednesday during our frees of what needs to be done in the drama studio.

Next time we will make sure we are much better equiped and prepared as we cant afford any more set backs.

Here is our 2nd draft of our anamatic storyboard. In this storyboard we have included scenes where we will include the band. We have done this because it seemed before that an aspect was missing from our original storyboard. After much research into codes and conventions we realised that due to the genre of the music we had to include shots of the band.
We have also included an ending to our video, so we therefore have a complete understanding of what we are doing, and a final shooting schedule is now under way.

My analysis of these videos has been that the time period between transitions is based on the pace and ultimately the genre of music. The faster a song has a beat the more quick cut transitions and more effects will be used in that particular video. Madonnna's original video of "Hung Up" however does not have as many quick cuts and and SFX however it does have a lot of fast paced movements like break-dancing and just general clips of Madonna walking at a fast pace towards the camera.

Claim To Fame: MySpace

They are a British electro-rock band from Reading, Berkshire and have been around since 2006. The band is made up of four members: James Rushent (vocals, bass), Dan Coop (synths), Morgan Quaintance (guitar, synth, live vocal on "Let's Make Out"), and Rob Bloomfield (drums).
They have been compared to dance-oriented acts like Daft Punk, Justice and Digitalism however, NME has also compared them to bands like Muse, and !!! Due to their heavier, more 'live' sound. The group is known for their raucous live shows, which often end in stage diving and broken instruments.
They have remixed songs for major acts such as Muse and Bloc Party. They supported The Cribs on the NME Awards Tour, which took place at venues across the UK and Ireland at the start of 2008.
The band revealed the origins of their name as being from British sitcom The Office. In an interview with NME.com, synth player Dan Coop explained: "Everybody thinks the name is some kind of statement but it's a quote from David Brent in an episode of 'The Office'. "When me and James Rushent first started writing music together we decided to put it up on MySpace. We needed a name to put as our profile name so just put what was the first thing that was said on TV, we switched it on and Ricky Gervais said 'Does it offend you, yeah? My drinking?' so we just went with that. No thought went into it whatsoever." It would be prudent to say that the bands character appeals more to the younger generation.

Pop - a genre features a noticeable rhythmic element, catchy melodies and hooks, a mainstream style and conventional structure. The term is also sometimes used to refer to any piece of music that appears in popular record charts due to a high number of sales and/or airplay, which is treated in the article Popular music.

DIOYY's particular style/genre of music doesnt appeal to everyone, just mainly the younger generation.

Here is our first draft for our anamatic storyboard its not fully complete, the other is on the way.

This has helped me see how the timing can be achieved in the song with the onscreen visuals.
It has worked quite well, however i have found that there are several changes that need to be made. For example we have decided to remove the scenes where we will film the persona in a car, as it would be quite difficult to film and the change in location is a little to fast. Instead we are going for an approach where we will include the band.

our objective now is to write up a second storyboard where we will include the band.

Treatment

We chose Does It Offend You, Yeah? as a good band to use for our A2 Music Video because of their originality and uniqueness. They also come across as quite a young and rebellious band and being recognised through “MySpace Music Generation” make them quite a new and upcoming band with lots of promises. Basic interpretation of the lyrics of “Let’s Make Out” will show sexual frustration and, in the sense of not being able to control your emotions or actions.

Our music video isn’t based on any particular plot or storyline because we felt it was a good idea to stay true to the particular style of the band. DIOYY uniqueness and juvenile style of music condones a music video that is sporadic, in the terms of what the target audience is watching, so since the target audience would be young achievers, the shots that would be used would be fast-paced and there would be a lot of jump shots and many close-ups. We want the content of our video to have shots of people kissing, so there’s a link with the title, shots of a party atmosphere with young people who seem to be having a good time, which in turn links with the band’s personal style. To reinforce the bands style, the type of clothing the characters will be wearing would be young and hip styled clothing, modern and chique so the connection is recognised between the band’s style and the characters.

The video focuses on post-modern youth and they’re idea on entertainment and representing that through the video is critical because if the video is believable and realistic our desired TA will find it quite effective and shows DIOYY in the way that they’d expect that particular band to be represented. We also don’t want too much explicit content in the video because the TA is not all over 18, which means there might be a few restrictions that need to be noted in terms of what content we can actually shoot.

DIOYY’s genre generally has a fast paced tempo to it and being infused with other genre which are considered to be of a fast tempo too, there is the connotations that the emotions created by the music are either very angry or extremely happy or hyper, we agreed to use the latter as the theme we use the most throughout shooting the music video.

Through studying the star icon “Michael Jackson” I have established that with every new album that comes out a new style of which the artist is represented takes place. In his early albums he shows a lot of innocence and almost immaturity in his videos especially in his “don’t stop till you get enough” video. As each album comes out his image gradually becomes a lot more darker and mysterious and also shows a large amount of sexual dominance. In his final albums you see a lot more of a godly figure where he mainly dresses in white. Audience seem to follow in his videos his steps to save the world.

This has helped me with my research into music videos, and has taught me the developments that go with music videos.

stoyboard is done!

Hey. It’s been a while, but I am back in business for a new blog post. Whoop.

Today Tad and I completed the first draft of our storyboard and we now have a very good idea on what we are doing. We are keeping the song we chose for our 30 second video practice as we feel it works and we can improve and develop into making it a full length music video. Following up the ideas of comedy and fun within it.

Through our exploration of the lyrics it has come to our attention that there is a strong amount of sexual frustration through out the song. We are therefore going to explore this in our video. Coming up with the idea of fast paced montage sequences to express this, due to how fast paced the song itself is.

30 second music video part 2

Ok. It seems i was wrong about the Original idea, as it went really well in the end. We managed to get around the toughness of the lip sinking and ended up realising that the mac we were using was having problems with uploading clips and when it did they came out all blurry and distorted. however now we have over come this problem and have put it all together and it now looks pretty good. so i think were pretty much there for when it comes to lip sinking. so now its time to crack on and move onto an immense idea!!!
oh the excitement!!!!!

i was looking though some past music videos from a2 music videos and found this one. it made me laugh. It was quite well done, fairly simple and it kept me entertained even though the lead guy doing it seemed like a bit of gimp. Its made me realise it would be cool to do something thats quite amusing becuase at least it would keep the audience interested.

30 second music video

Today Tad and I filmed the opening of our 30 second practice music video. We have decided to use the song "Lets Make Out" by "Does It Offend You Yeah?" as the opening of the song begins straight away with lyrics, it therefore gives us an ideal practice on creating "lip sinks". For the video we wanted a group of people to one by one scream the words "lets make out" we filmed this and then uploaded it. unfortunately it didn't go quite as well as we hoped as when we had put it together we realised that it looked really out of place and physically it didn't look good at all. the main problem is also the fact that the high amount of people involved within filming, didnt match the song. A new idea is deffinatly needed to be taken into account.
